Meet Shanaé

A native of Miami, Florida, Shanaé Joyce-Stringer brings her experience in education, small business ownership, and community advocacy to Eugene, which she has called home for the past three years. Shanaè is running for mayor because she has a passion for community-driven progress and she’s dedicated to shaping a community that reflects shared values and aspirations and a city that embraces forward movement and inclusivity.

Shanaè brings a rich tapestry of experience as both an educator and a small business owner. In the realm of education, her journey began in 2006, spanning roles within public, charter, and tribal schools as a classroom educator, after-school instructor, and program assistant in Florida and Eugene, Oregon. While in Eugene she has also worked as a regional navigator and program coordinator, providing support and guidance at the district level to local school districts in Lane County.

Shanaè even had the unique opportunity to teach English in Yangzhou, China where she connected with fellow educators from around the U.S. and China exchanging ideas and practices, as well as high school students that were eager to learn about American culture and share their culture as well.

On the entrepreneurial front, Shanaè’s journey as a small business owner commenced in 2011 when she transformed her passion for event planning into reality with her first business, B.L.A.Q. Events. Building on this entrepreneurial spirit, she founded Shanaè Joyce-Stringer Enterprise in 2018 where she offers her services as a professional life coach, public speaker, and sells books and apparel . This fusion of educational insight and entrepreneurial drive underpins Shanaè’s dedication to fostering greater economic development and positive change for all residents in Eugene, Oregon.

She has a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Public Administration, in addition to a Master’s degree in Conflict Analysis and Resolution. Professionally, Shanaè made meaningful contributions to non-profit organizations, public school districts, and engaged extensively with diverse youth and adults to improve access to quality education and best teaching practices, which led to her being designated as a mentor teacher for her colleagues. Beyond the classroom, she is a life coach and ordained minister, who has a mission of connecting to individuals of all faiths. Shanaè’s focus on empowering women to fulfill their purpose has been a cornerstone of her life’s work.

Shanaè’s advocacy is rooted in a family legacy of service to the community. Her grandparents’ entrepreneurial spirit in South Florida, providing affordable housing options and employment to many through their multiple rental properties and businesses, has shaped Shanaè’s commitment to the betterment of the community she call’s home. Raised as the only child of a remarkable mother who is a retired educator and philanthropic community member, she’s defied odds to contribute meaningfully to society with her mother’s devotion and love. Now a dedicated resident of Eugene, Shanaè remains committed to these values.

Her involvement in advisory groups such as the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Arts Education Committee, the United Way of Lane County Racial Justice Fund, Eugene Juneteenth Planning Committee and the City of Eugene Riverfront Festival Advisory Group, among others, reflects her dedication to uplifting our community. As mayor, Shanaè will aim to amplify her commitment to progressive action and to serve all the wonderful people of Eugene.”
